Job description
As a Backend Engineer at our company, you'll design and build the APIs, data pipelines, and services that power our product. You take pride in writing reliable, maintainable code and thinking carefully about performance, correctness, and security. You'll work in a small, highly collaborative team where your decisions have a direct and visible impact on the product and the business.
What you'll do
- Design and implement RESTful or GraphQL APIs consumed by web and mobile clients, ensuring clear contracts and versioning.
- Build and maintain data models, migrations, and query optimizations across our PostgreSQL and cloud data infrastructure.
- Develop asynchronous background jobs, event-driven workflows, and real-time data processing pipelines.
- Instrument services with structured logging, metrics, and distributed tracing to enable fast incident detection and resolution.
- Participate in on-call rotation and contribute to runbooks, incident postmortems, and reliability improvement projects.
What we're looking for
- Four or more years of experience building and operating production backend services under real traffic.
- Mastery of at least one backend language (Node.js, Python, Go, Ruby, or Elixir) and its standard ecosystem.
- Deep understanding of database design, query optimization, and transaction management in PostgreSQL or similar RDBMS.
- Experience with message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS) or event streaming platforms for async workloads.
- Strong grasp of security fundamentals including auth patterns (OAuth, JWT), input validation, and OWASP Top-10 mitigations.
