Job Summary
The Research Coordinator will work under the supervision for Dr. Janet Mah, Principal Investigator (PI), at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHR) to support the coordination and execution of research projects in community-based participatory action, cultural co-design and adaptation of mental health resources, and clinical research and program evaluation regarding child and family mental health.

The incumbent will play a central role in coordinating the research activities of the Co-Designing Resources with and for Chinese-Canadian Families Together (CRAFT) project. They will also be involved in other lab projects and activities, including clinical research, local, provincial and national collaborations, and regular lab meetings.

Organizational Status
The research coordinator reports to Dr. Janet Mah. The Mah Clinical Research Lab is part of the Brain, Behaviour, and Development Theme at BCCHR. We focus on clinical research to improve the lives of children, youth, and their families who have mental health difficulties. We are dedicated to the understanding of the unique strengths and challenges, and the beliefs, attitudes, and actions of this population, in order to develop and evaluate innovative and evidence-based practices for patients, professionals, and public community. Our work is closely integrated with the Outpatient Child & Youth Mental Health Program of BC Children’s Hospital.

Work Performed

• Plan and execute project activities and procedures, and troubleshoot problems across several research projects

• Maintain a project tracking system to stay on budget and timeline, oversee data collection and documentation

• Arrange and conduct meetings between the research team and clinicians, community partners, and family advisors

• Assist with design and/or development of new techniques and writing grant applications

• Coordinate data access and ethics submissions, renewals and amendments

• Assist with the preparation of knowledge translation materials, presentations and papers, both internal and external, academic and public

• Provide training and direct the work of undergraduate students, new or lower level research assistants in lab/project procedures

• Complete other related research and administrative duties as needed

Consequence of Error/Judgement
Accountability and responsibility of this position is high. The consequence of error could result in lost data, inefficient workflow, compromised integrity and success of research projects and the research lab.

Supervision Received
This position will report directly to Dr. Janet Mah, PI

Supervision Given
May oversee and direct the work of one or two students and/or lower level technicians

Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a relevant technical program or a university degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Work approximately 5-6 hours/week and can work some evenings or weekends
• Proficiency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese and English
• Solid interpersonal, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills
  Strong ability to learn quickly and function proactively and independently
• Ability to demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, initiative, and problem solving
• Computer literacy, including Zoom, REDCap, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint
