CORE JOB SUMMARY  

The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UMMSOM) is experiencing a period of expansion and is seeking exceptional candidates to join the faculty.   The University of Miami is considered among the top tier institutions of higher education in the U.S. for its academic excellence, superior medical care, and cutting-edge researchWe are one of the largest private employers in Miami-Dade County; home to more than 16,000 faculty and staff from all over the world. 

This is a full-time Associate Professor of Clinical position in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. 

 

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS  

  • Provide ophthalmology medical and surgical services as needed according to service rotation and call schedule.  If indicated, will rotate to other sites within the University of Miami Health System according to schedule set by the Chairman and/or Service Director. 

  • Be active in the education of residents and medical students in the service. 

  • Maintain high clinical quality, productivity and citizenship within the department, e.g., attendance and participation in lectures, rounds, committee assignments, academic activity, etc. 

  • Represent the department with clinicians, trainees, and staff who are based at affiliates and referral practices, doing so with professionalism and engagement. 

  • Develop referral and educational relationships within the University of Miami Health System and with other practices on the regional and national levels. 

  • Develop a regional and eventually national presence as a clinical leader through participation in national and regional meetings. 

  • Develop, maintain and, as appropriate, secure funding for academic/research activities, such as translational research, clinical trials and other clinical research. 

  • Develop and/or participate in quality assurance protocols and clinical outcome studies for Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. 

  • Perform administrative and committee responsibilities as assigned from time to time by the Chairman or Service Director, which may include participation in, or organization of, continuing medical education courses in provider area of specialty. 

  • Be willing to see patients at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute satellite locations depending on departmental need as determined by the Chairman and Service Director. 

  • Expected to abide by and conform to all university policies and procedures including University of Miami Medical Group Bylaws, hospital bylaws, and those policies and procedures required by University agencies, vendors or other third partiesThe faculty member is expected to be familiar with the University faculty manual.

Certification and Licensing: 

  • The candidate must be board certified/eligible and must have a license to practice medicine in the state of Florida (Florida Medical License or University Medical Certificate)
