  • Play a frontline role in supporting the safety and wellbeing of students, staff and the wider university community 

  • Base Salary $112,628 - $122,702 (HEO7) + 17% superannuation   

About the opportunity 

The Safer Communities Case Officer plays a vital role in supporting a safe, respectful and inclusive university community. This position provides traumainformed, personcentred support to students, staff, former students, former staff members, and visitors who are impacted by genderbased violence, sexual harm, domestic and family violence, bullying and harassment, and issues relating to modern slavery. 

This is a meaningful opportunity for a skilled and compassionate practitioner who is committed to supporting wellbeing, safety and healing, while contributing to prevention and culturechange initiatives across the University. 

Key responsibilities 

Reporting to the Safer Communities Team Lead, you will: 

  • provide traumainformed case management and support to individuals who disclose experiences of harm 

  • conduct risk assessments and develop safety, wellbeing and support plans 

  • offer advice and guidance on reporting options, support pathways and University processes 

  • facilitate referrals to appropriate internal services and external specialist agencies 

  • work within relevant legislative, policy and safeguarding frameworks using a steppedcare approach 

  • liaise and collaborate with University colleagues and external providers, including health, mental health, statutory and community services 

  • contribute to preventative education initiatives, awarenessraising activities, and promotion of the Safer Communities Office 

  • maintain accurate, confidential records and contribute to service improvement and reporting as required. 

About you 

You are a supportive and capable professional with experience working with people affected by trauma and complex wellbeing or safety concerns. You bring sound judgement, empathy, and the ability to work collaboratively in sensitive and complex situations. You will have: 

  • demonstrated experience providing traumainformed support or case management 

  • strong understanding of genderbased violence, sexual harm, domestic and family violence, and related issues 

  • experience conducting risk assessments and safety planning 

  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage sensitively with diverse communities 

  • knowledge of relevant legislation, ethical practice, and confidentiality requirements 

  • ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external service providers 

  • relevant qualifications in social work, psychology, counselling, community services or a related field (or equivalent experience).

You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this employment to be eligible to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment. 

Pre-employment checks 

Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University. Similarly, your ongoing employment is conditional upon the satisfactory maintenance of all relevant clearances and background check requirements. If you do not meet these conditions, the University may take any necessary step, including the termination of your employment. 

This position is designated as involving child-related work. To undertake or remain in this position, you are required to apply for and obtain a Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.
