MMI1010H Prices and Markets

To operate as a successful manager requires knowledge of the core economic principles determining market production and consumption decisions. Effective managers understand how market forces affect prices and how changes in the economic environment affect market supply and demand levels. Above all, great managers have a well-developed capability for strategic thinking.

MMI1010 Prices and Markets will help students learn the basic tools of managerial economics. Drawing from the latest academic research, they will learn several models economists use to predict consumer behavior, production, pricing, and competition. This course will employ game theory to enhance the ability to think strategically, take managerial decisions, and predict reactions of your market rivals.

Description of Duties:

  1. Being available online during class hours for synchronous sessions
  2. Marking assignments, having done suitable preparation (careful reading of cases).
  3. Meet with students on an occasional basis to discuss assignments.
  4. Invigilating the final exam.
  5. Assist in marking tests and final exams.
  6. Use Quercus.
  7. Consult with students by email.

Preferably a PhD student in Economics, Economic Analysis & Policy, Marketing, or Strategic Management with research interest in applied microeconomic theory or a suitable qualified graduate student.

Class Schedule: Mondays, 11:00 AM to 01:00 PM

Sessional date of appointment:  September 1, 2026 - December 31, 2026

Salary:
The minimum hourly rate shall be: September 1, 2026    $55.25 (plus vacation rate)
