Overview

Reporting to the Associate Director of Clinical Services and in collaboration with the  Physician Chief of Pediatrics and Medical Director for Immunizations/Allergy,  oversee the daily operations of both the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Immunizations (previously known as Preventive Health). Responsibilities include:  Travel Vaccines, New and Returning Student Vaccines, Allergy Vaccines, as well as all other routine vaccines administered to Adult and Pediatric populations in accordance with  CDC and other standards of care. Position is also responsible for ensuring appropriate staffing for Acute Care Pediatrics, after hours and on weekends and holidays for the pediatric population. In collaboration with the Manager of Employee Health plan, develop, implement and provide oversight of university wide Flu Immunization Program annually. The Manager collaborates with Associate Director of Clinical Services assuring that standards of care are consistently met and a culture of safety is an organizational priority.

Role includes oversight of day to day operations, clinical policy and procedures, facilities, maintenance and procurement of supplies, including complex inventory of allergens and vaccines.  Role includes development of annual budget for department of Pediatrics, Immunizations, Family Flu and Adult Flu Clinics as well as After Hours Pediatric Acute Care services.  A significant part of this position includes high level planning for programs, initiatives, and services that support organizational and strategic goals. Directly supervises and manages Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Medical and Administrative support staff. Responsible for performance management, change agent, and identifying opportunities for innovation that lead to efficiencies and optimal clinical care.  Manager will collaborate with all Managers and Chiefs within the organization and partner to achieve goals and seamless operations at all times.  Functions as a liaison to clinicians and all members of the care team to prioritize, anticipate patient care needs, and access in order to foster on going improvements of service. Serves as a professional leader at Yale Health. Works to engage staff in a mission of creating and sustaining a healthy workplace culture.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

Preferred:  nursing experience in an ambulatory care, emergency room (sub-acute facility), or a college health center.

Principal Responsibilities

 

1. Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and nursing services multi specialty physician practices. Assign responsibilities and duties as related to appropriate licensure and experience of staff member. 2. Analyzes internal and external data and information to identify opportunities for improving services, patient outcomes and patient satisfaction. 3. Evaluates staff performance based on professional practice standards and development. Conduct performance evaluations and implement corrective actions in order to promote a productive and healthy work environment. 4. Provides leadership, guidance and direction to clinical staff. Collaborate with nursing staff at all levels. Bases decisions and actions on ethical principles and fosters a non-discriminatory environment. 5. Interviews, hires, and trains clinical staff. Ensures all clinical staff maintains required training skills 6. Responsible for operating within approved budget. 7. Obtains and assesses vital signs, patient history, medications and other pertinent demographic information and log all data into records according to practice policy and standards. 8. Evaluates and presents patient history and diagnosis to physician using concise and accurate verbal communication. 9. Assures all procedures for maintaining patient confidentiality are maintained per HIPAA guidelines. 10. Provides patient education about various health care topics and medications. 11. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Bachelor Degree in Nursing and three years of nursing experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Required License(s) or Certification(s) Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut.

This role is a healthcare worker position.
