Job description

ClassDojo’s mission is to help every child love learning. Dojo Tutor advances that mission through a marketplace that connects caring, skilled tutors with families seeking engaging online learning experiences, from 1:1 sessions to group classes, that build skills and confidence. We’re growing fast and hearing every day how tutoring changes lives for students and tutors alike.

What this opportunity looks like

This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity. You set your own availability, design your own sessions and classes, and choose your subjects, whether that’s 1:1 tutoring, group classes, or both. Families browse and select the tutor or class that fits their learner. Our platform provides scheduling tools, the LessonSpace virtual classroom, and payment processing so you can focus on what you do best.

Why tutors choose Dojo Tutor

  • Meaningful impact with Pre-K–12 students across reading, writing, math, science, Spanish, coding, and more, with arts, gaming, and additional subjects on the way

  • Teach your way using your own materials, methods, and expertise, no rigid curriculum

  • Build your brand: customize your profile, images, and class offerings to attract families and learners who are the right fit for what you offer

  • Families find and choose you based on your profile, you build your own client relationships

  • Clear pay: up to $30/hour, paid twice per month via Remote

What great tutors typically do (you’re in control)

  • Offer reliable weekly availability so families can build a routine with you

  • Design engaging 1:1 or group experiences that reflect your teaching strengths and interests

  • Personalize instruction, celebrate progress, and communicate clearly with families

  • Explore optional learning opportunities to sharpen your online teaching and grow your tutoring business

What successful Dojo Tutors typically have

  • Experience helping kids grow in one or more subjects (e.g., phonics, number sense, conversational Spanish, intro to coding, scientific inquiry)

  • Strong communication and rapport-building skills with children and families

  • Professional online setup: computer with camera/mic, stable internet, quiet, well-lit space

  • Willingness to complete a background check (required for activation). Teaching certification is a plus, not required.

Contracting & eligibility

  • Independent contractor (1099): you manage your schedule; hours aren’t guaranteed; no employment benefits

  • Location eligibility applies; we’re currently accepting tutors from most U.S. States and Mexico

What applying to ClassDojo usually looks like

Based on publicly available information, candidates applying through ashby for roles at ClassDojo can generally expect an online application followed by an initial review of resume and background materials. The process may include multiple stages, such as a recruiter screen, one or more interviews with hiring managers or team members, and potentially a skills-based or role-specific assessment depending on the position, such as developer-experience-engineer or product-manager. Communication is typically handled through the ashby platform, including scheduling and status updates. Response times vary and may depend on role seniority and application volume, with more senior roles like director-of-engineering potentially involving additional evaluation steps. Candidates should be prepared to discuss relevant experience, provide references if requested, and may encounter take-home exercises or panel-style discussions as part of the evaluation process.
