Independently perform complex technical tasks associated with the installation, maintenance and repair of pneumatic tube and pipe systems as assigned. This position may be assigned to a trades shop or specialty area/location. This is a generic description of duties for positions focusing on the maintenance and repair of the pneumatic tube system as well as the pneumatic trash and linen systems.

DEPARTMENAL PREFERENCES
Experience/training in healthcare setting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education - Work requires an educational background normally equivalent to a high school education with course work in skilled crafts. State of NC contractor's license in a specific trade may be required or preferred.
Experience - Minimum of six (6) years of maintenance and repair experience related to the specific trade or equipment with proven leadership skills.
OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
Valid N.C. Driver's license is required.

Work Performed
- Independently perform specialized technical tasks in the troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of pneumatic tube/pipe equipment and systems related to the Pneumatic Tube System and the Pneumatic Trash and Linen Systems.
- Conduct periodic inspections of designated facilities, equipment and systems. Perform preventive maintenance on pneumatic tube system and pneumatic trash and linen systems. Maintain the pneumatic systems to reduce the downtime to a minimum.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and maintenance/repair records to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and codes. Maintain proper documentation for riser and network portion of the systems including riser diagrams, IP addresses, inventory of replacement parts and system components.
- Maintain the appropriate inventory of tube system carriers and carrier inserts. Assures that each station has the allotted amount of carriers.
- Consult with equipment manufacturer for technical assistance; contact manufacturer for warranty service or service beyond warranty if circumstances dictate. Research Manufacture sites, equipment manuals and online resources to obtain required replacement parts. Work with venders to acquire pricing and complete purchase requisitions for parts and materials.
- Coordination and Management of outside venders to make necessary repairs to the pneumatic tube system and the pneumatic trash and linen systems. Work with outside vendors on renovation and new construction projects to coordinate work on the pneumatic systems.
- Attend Manufactures training at offsite locations as necessary. Ability to research, learn and self-train on the pneumatic systems utilizing the manufacture manuals and training guides.
- Advise management of general condition of equipment and systems and any unusual problems or concerns that may arise; make recommendations for improvements and upgrades for budget planning; compile and present data to support recommendations.
- Provide technical assistance, instruction and consultation to staff members for the resolution of special problems. Provide training to maintenance staff members as well as clinical staff (Users of the systems).

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $26.19 to USD $43.31.
