Overview

Emory Healthcare is a leading academic health system serving metro Atlanta and Central Georgia. As part of an ongoing system-wide initiative to consolidate, standardize, and optimize Core Laboratory operations, Emory Healthcare seeks an accomplished clinical chemist to advance the quality, consistency, and clinical value of laboratory services.

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine invites applications for a full-time academic faculty position in Clinical Chemistry at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. The successful candidate will serve as Director of Clinical Chemistry and Point-of-Care Testing, providing scientific, medical, and operational leadership for Core Laboratory and point-of-care testing services across Emory Decatur Hospital, Emory Hillandale Hospital, and Emory Long-Term Acute Care. The Department offers outstanding opportunities for clinical service, education, scholarly collaboration, and research within a community that supports one of the largest pathology training programs in the United States.

This position reports to the System Medical Director of Core Laboratory Service. The Director will work collaboratively with system and hospital leadership, laboratory professionals, clinicians, and other stakeholders to promote high-quality, efficient, and standardized laboratory services.

  • Test Stewardship and Utilization: Promote evidence-based laboratory test utilization, appropriate test ordering, and the effective use of laboratory resources to support patient care.
  • Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards, including CLIA and CAP requirements, and advance a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Test Development and Validation: Oversee the evaluation, development, validation, implementation, and ongoing performance monitoring of new and existing laboratory tests and methodologies.
  • Standardization and Operational Excellence: Partner with system and local laboratory leadership to optimize workflows, harmonize testing practices, and advance standardization across the Emory Healthcare laboratory network.
  • Point-of-Care Testing Oversight: Support the quality, reliability, regulatory compliance, and effective integration of point-of-care testing into clinical workflows across the operating unit.
  • Clinical Collaboration: Work closely with clinicians, laboratory personnel, and interdisciplinary teams to address diagnostic needs, resolve testing-related issues, and improve the clinical utility of laboratory services.
  • Education and Academic Engagement: Contribute to teaching and mentoring at the professional, graduate, medical, and medical laboratory science levels, and participate in the broader educational and scholarly mission of the Department.
