About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY

The School of Nursing at Northeastern University seeks a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to serve as a full-time Nursing Academic Coach for our Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program. This position provides individualized and group academic support to students in our intensive accelerated nursing curriculum, helping them achieve academic success and develop strong clinical reasoning skills. The ideal candidate will have a passion for nursing education, strong clinical knowledge across multiple content areas, and the ability to support diverse learners in a fast-paced academic environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Minimum education, experience, and skills required to perform the job successfully:

  • Current, active, and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in [state]
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an ACEN or CCNE-accredited program
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical nursing experience in acute care or specialty practice
  • Demonstrated expertise in nursing fundamentals, pharmacology, pathophysiology, and clinical reasoning
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex concepts clearly
  • Experience working with adult learners and diverse student populations
  • Proficiency with learning management systems and educational technology
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or higher degree
  • Prior teaching, tutoring, or precepting experience in nursing education
  • Experience with accelerated or second-degree nursing programs
  • Clinical experience in multiple specialties (medical-surgical, critical care, pediatrics, maternal health, mental health)
  • Knowledge of NCLEX-RN examination content and test-taking strategies
  • Certification in a nursing specialty area
  • Experience with diverse teaching modalities including simulation and case-based learning

 

Work Schedule & Environment:

  • Full-time position requiring 40 hours per week, 12 months per year
  • Schedule includes daytime hours with flexibility for evening and weekend sessions based on student needs
  • Hybrid work model may be available with combination of on-campus and virtual tutoring
  • Peak demand periods coincide with examination schedules and end-of-semester periods
  • Work environment includes individual and group tutoring spaces, computer lab access, and virtual platforms

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods during tutoring sessions
  • Ability to use computer and educational technology for extended periods
  • Occasional standing for group tutoring sessions or workshops
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and via technology platforms

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES


Academic Support & Tutoring 55%

  • Create a collaborative environment that provides opportunities for nursing students to thrive and meet full potential
  • Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions for ABSN students across all nursing courses
  • Assist students in understanding complex nursing concepts, pharmacology, pathophysiology, and clinical applications
  • Develop and implement individualized study plans for students requiring additional academic support
  • Teach effective study strategies, time management skills, and test-taking techniques specific to nursing examinations
  • Support students in developing clinical reasoning and critical thinking skills

Student Assessment & Progress Monitoring 20%

  • Assess individual student learning needs and identify knowledge gaps
  • Monitor student progress and maintain detailed records of tutoring sessions
  • Collaborate with faculty to identify at-risk students and develop intervention strategies
  • Provide regular feedback to students, faculty, and program leadership regarding student progress
  • Participate in academic success meetings and remediation planning

Resource Development 15%

  • Create supplemental learning materials including study guides, practice questions, and concept maps
  • Develop and maintain a library of tutoring resources aligned with course content
  • Design interactive learning activities to reinforce difficult concepts
  • Utilize technology and educational platforms to enhance student learning
  • Stay current with NCLEX-RN test plan and integrate relevant content into tutoring sessions

Program Collaboration 5%

  • Work closely with ABSN faculty to align tutoring services with course objectives and curriculum
  • Attend faculty meetings and program planning sessions as appropriate
  • Participate in program assessment and continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with academic advisors, student services, and other support staff
  • Contribute to retention and student success initiatives

Professional Development 5%

  • Maintain current nursing licensure and complete required continuing education
  • Stay current with evidence-based nursing practice and educational best practices
  • Participate in professional development activities related to nursing education
  • Engage in scholarship of teaching and learning as appropriate
