The Department of Sociology and Criminology at The Pennsylvania State University, in University Park, PA, USA, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position, at the rank of Assistant Professor, to start in Fall 2027, with flexibility.

A Ph.D. in Sociology, or related field, is required by the appointment date.

Candidates for Assistant Professor must have demonstrated ability as a researcher, scholar, and teacher and have evidence of growth in scholarly achievement. Duties and responsibilities for assistant professor candidates include a combination of research, service, and teaching. Onsite teaching is an essential function of the job.

The successful candidate will have expertise in population-based approaches to aging, broadly defined. Their academic portfolio will also fit with the mission of the aging initiative being supported by the College of Liberal Arts and other units on campus, including the Social Science Research Institute (SSRI). The initiative includes a focus on federally funded aging research. Thus, candidates should be grant-active or show strong evidence of external funding potential.

Successful candidates will also strengthen the Department and College, and contribute to SSRI’s mission, which is to foster novel, interdisciplinary collaborative research that addresses critical human and social problems.

Interested candidates must submit an online application at Penn State’s Job Posting Board, and should upload the following application materials electronically: a letter of interest, CV or resume, and a list of three references with contact information. Inquiries may be directed to sociology@psu.edu. Review of applications will begin on October 15 and continue until the position is filled.

Visit our website at sociology.la.psu.edu for more information about the department. Visit the SSRI website for more information about the Institute.
