JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State Brandywine Library is seeking a dependable, positive, and productive individual to join our team. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in doing things well, enjoys staying busy throughout the day, and wants to become a valued member of a supportive workplace for the long term.

What You Will Do 

Every day brings a mix of responsibilities that help the library run smoothly. You will: 

  • Assist library visitors and provide friendly, professional customer service 

  • Keep books, materials, and library spaces organized and well maintained 

  • Support programs, displays, events, and outreach activities 

  • Help create signage, promotional materials, and other library communications 

  • Complete administrative and inventory tasks accurately and on time 

  • Contribute to special projects and improvements throughout the library 

  • Work closely with library staff to ensure a welcoming, efficient environment 

 

This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys staying engaged, takes initiative, and finds satisfaction in getting things done.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or equivalent 

  • One year of customer service or related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

 

Preferred, But Not Required 

  • Experience in a library, school or office 

  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Canva, PowerPoint, or social media tools 

 

Schedule 

  • 20 hours per week 

  • Must be available to regularly support afternoon and evening library operations through closing time four days a week (Monday through Thursday, 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM during school year) 

  • Shift times and weekly hours may be adjusted during academic breaks or other times when the library operates on a modified schedule. 

  • Occasional weekend event coverage, typically only a few times per year. 

  • Candidates who can provide occasional schedule flexibility to assist with coverage during staff absences are preferred.  

  • Fully on-site at Penn State Brandywine in Media, PA
