JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Management & Organization Department of The Smeal College of Business is seeking applicants for part-time job of Teaching Assistant to assist Dr. Pala in the BA 342 Sapphire course for the Fall 2026 semester.

Job duties to include:

  • Attending class and helping instructor with tracking attendance/participation
  • Working with the instructor and students during class exercises
  • Help with grading individual and team assignments and quizzes/exams and providing constructive feedback
  • Help with exam proctoring
  • Holding office hours (if necessary)

Teaching assistants are expected to demonstrate excellent academic performance, a high level of integrity, and professional behavior; in particular, TAs must uphold both the Smeal Honor Code and the Class Codes of Conduct and maintain strict confidentiality with respect to student information and course materials. Commitment and sensitivity to the individual student are required, including awareness of diversity of students’ cultural, racial, gender, and ethnic backgrounds; perception of differing learning styles; and attention to special needs of students with declared or apparent learning difficulties.

Requirements, qualifications, and/or competencies:

  • Applicants must be Smeal undergraduate students in the Sapphire Leadership Program with a 3.5 or higher GPA
  • Applicants must have strong knowledge of the material from having performed well academically in MGMT 301 and BA 342.
  • Applicants must have the ability to work effectively one-on-one with students who are seeking help

Schedule:

  • Estimated time commitment is 10 hours/week.

Compensation:

The starting rate for this job is $15/hour.
