Job Summary

The Department of Political Science and the Department of Economics and Finance at Purdue University Fort Wayne seeks an assistant professor of practice to teach core courses in law and to serve as Campus Pre-Law Advisor. This is a full-time, nine-month appointment. The workload is 4/4, with one course reduction for the role of Campus Pre-Law Advisor. The position is housed within the Department of Political Science, but the teaching responsibilities will be divided between the Department of Political Science in the College of Liberal Arts and the Department of Economics and Finance in the Doermer School of Business. Additional opportunities to contribute courses to the Department of Leadership and Talent Development in the Doermer School of Business may also be available.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in politics and law and business law, advise and mentor undergraduate students and alumni, and participate in service to the departments, colleges, university, community, and profession. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to high-quality undergraduate teaching and student engagement as well as the potential to develop and sustain the Pre-Law Program.

As Campus Pre-Law Advisor, the successful candidate will advise all university students interested in potentially attending law school. The Fort Wayne metropolitan area has over 645,000 residents and is home to a large number of law firms and corporations that require counsel. The person who fills this position is expected to leverage existing relationships and internships with regional bar foundations and other relevant legal organizations, as well as to develop new connections to this legal community in the interest of the university and pre-law advisees. As a member of the university, the new assistant professor of practice will build on our award-winning advising, serving students and alumni from not only political science and economics and finance but also the university community at large.

The position includes a competitive salary and benefits package.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include a J.D.; a record of professional or applied experience in law, including at least five years of relevant experience practicing law; a record of university-level teaching across disciplinary boundaries; and demonstrated commitment to academic advising, mentorship, and institutional service. The successful candidate must also demonstrate the promise of maintaining the professional qualifications necessary to support the Doermer School of Business's AACSB accreditation and faculty credentialing requirements, including maintaining an active law license throughout their appointment to this position.
