Job Summary

Extension Educators provide the link between Land Grant University research and Indiana residents by supporting innovative learning opportunities for youth and youth-serving volunteers and professionals to ensure positve youth development experiences. Educators collaborate with local, regional, and state agencies, partner organizations, businesses, and schools to analyze needs; develop, implement, and oversee vibrant and sustainable research-based educational programs; and provide resources and expertise to the local community. The Extension Educator will provide evidence-based learning opportunities and individual stakeholder consultations.

 

This is a professional contributor position that works under general supervision while being responsible for day-to-day coordination and leadership of the local 4-H program and/or local Youth Development Programming. The Extension Educator will ensure State 4-H and university policies and procedures are implemented, provide oversight to local and regional youth-related Extension programs, and will provide local and regional educational opportunities and experiences.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Providing coordination, supporting, and/or leadership to Community 4-H Clubs through yearly oversight, ensuring best practices, volunteer placement, providing educational resources, and/or carrying out Youth Protection and Risk Management Policies
  • Managing and/or supporting youth and volunteer enrollment in the local and regional 4-H Program through 4honline
  • Serving as the direct supervisor of volunteers and assist volunteers in delivering 4-H programming and addressing needs and issues
  • Serving as advisor and/or support to 4-H Affiliates
  • Connecting with State and Regional 4-H Staff to promote educational programs
  • Meeting local and regional needs by connecting youth and adult volunteers with available opportunities
  • Providing registration support
  • Acting as local and regional connection to the State 4-H Program 
  • Ensuring local and regional events and participation follow Purdue University and Indiana State 4-H Policies and Procedures
  • Working with 4-H Affiliates to provide a 4-H Culminating Event. Participation is to be recorded in Fair Entry
  • Developing and providing 4-H and Youth Development local and regional experiences, prioritizing implementation of Purdue Extension’s statewide youth-focused curriculum and programs
  • Attending and chaperoning the annual National 4-H Trip (requires supervisor approval)
  • Supporting state 4-H opportunities for youth and/or youth-serving volunteers and professionals
  • Participating in Professional Development provided on a regional, state-wide, and national basis as required or self-selected (requires supervisor approval)
  • May hire and supervise county support staff

What We're Looking For:

  • Master’s degree
  • 6 months of experience in educational program development, implementation, and evaluation and/or in educational program management and/or volunteerism and/or organizational systems
  • In lieu of degree, an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered (Bachelor's + 2.5 years of experience)
  • Possess strong communication skills
  • Leadership, mentoring, teamwork, and group process skills
  • Knowledge of basic educational methods
  • Ability to work with new and existing clientele and stakeholders
  • Critical thinker with exceptional problem-solving skills
  • A valid U.S. driver’s license or dependable transportation
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed within and beyond the county of assignment
