Job Description

Texas A&M University-Victoria seeks a full-time, 12-month Director of the Career Development Center to lead career development and student employment services.

Qualifications:

The Director will connect academic programs and student experiences with career counseling, professional development, internships, employment, and graduate opportunities from enrollment through graduation and beyond. Under the direction and supervision of the Executive Director of Student Success, this position will oversee career programming, employer engagement, job development and potential placement, student employment, and career resources while managing departmental budgets and supporting student and alumni career success. Prior experience advising college students and familiarity with programs like Handshake, EAB Navigate, and Slate are desirable.

Responsibilities:

· Lead career development services that integrate academic programs, career counseling, experiential learning, and employment preparation from freshman year through graduation and throughout students’ evolving careers.

· Partner with academic deans, chairs, and faculty to align career pathways, internships, and professional development with academic programs and workforce needs.

· Provide career counseling and assessment to help students and alumni explore careers, identify goals, develop professional skills, and plan for employment or graduate education.

· Develop progressive career-readiness programming that supports students from early career exploration as freshmen, through skill and experience development as sophomores and juniors, to job/graduate school preparation and potential placement as seniors.

· Build internships, experiential learning, employer partnerships, and networking opportunities that connect classroom learning to careers.

· Provide workshops and individualized coaching in resumes, interviewing, job searching, networking, and other professional skills.

· Cultivate and maintain relationships with employers and leverage campuswide networks and relationships to grow employer partners.

· Coordinate career fairs, employer recruitment, on-campus interviewing, student employment, and job placement activities.

· Assess career programs and use outcome data to strengthen services and student employment success.

· Supervise staff and manage related programs, resources, and partnerships.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred in Counseling, Business, Higher Education, or related area and six years of related experience.

Setting: Texas A&M University-Victoria is the most recent addition to the Texas A&M University System. The University was founded in 1973 as part of the University of Houston System and was transferred to the Texas A&M University System during the 89th Texas Legislative Session. A&M-Victoria is the only four-year university in a 100-mile radius and is just 30 miles from the Texas Gulf Coast. The University is a Hispanic-Serving Institution located in the Coastal Bend region of Texas. It serves the educational needs, promotes economic well-being, and advances the community and region's quality of life through teaching, research, and service excellence. The university also has several accreditations for specific areas and programs, including from the AACSB, ABET, CACREP and CCNE. In addition to its recent transition into The Texas A&M University System, A&M-Victoria is in the process of adding academic programs in three major areas: aviation, agribusiness, and engineering. In addition to academic excellence, A&M-Victoria has a thriving Athletics program that offers six competitive teams: baseball, softball, men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s golf. The Jaguars are part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and the baseball, softball and soccer teams compete in the Red River Athletic Conference.
