Job Summary
Positions in this classification set up and resets room venues and provide general assistance for conferences and miscellaneous meetings, sets up Food & Beverage stations, drive company cars for delivering food and beverages to different venues.

Organizational Status

Reports to Manager or Supervisor.

Work Performed

Picks-up and loads a delivery truck with food, beverages, supplies, equipment and departmental mail from a centralized food processing area and delivers to other units of Food Services and various individual areas throughout campus.

Maintains records of food and equipment delivered to and picked up from various campus locations.

Carries out the routine fueling and maintenance of the vehicle being operated, maintains a weekly log.

Loads equipment, tables, chairs, furnishings, supplies, and other related material into vehicle, drives transport vehicle to destination and unloads.

Attends events venues and facilities to monitor status and provide on-site assistance to conference organizers and attendees.
 

Connects and operates audio visual and public address systems.

Performs cleanup work in meeting rooms and common areas as required.

Provides information to guests and the public in response to inquiries relating to conference activities and locations.

Contacts Campus Security or RCMP if safety or security of persons, event or facilities is in jeopardy.

Assists emergency response personnel during fire alarms, medical emergencies, police inquiries and any other emergency to ensure and maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and guests.

May write shift activity reports and record activity in area log book.

Sets and resets tables as required with linen, china, cutlery, glassware and other setting arrangements; arranges tables and chairs and other furnishings as required for daily service and functions.

Sets up, maintains & tears down bars. conducts bar and facility clean up and requisitions and stores goods according to established procedures, as required.
 

Delivers liquor order to function from catering office and returns all unused product after function.

Verifies liquor order against function sheet requirements. Records inventory before and after function.

Tracks sales during function.

Counts cash float before and after function.

Stays informed with respect to all food and beverage menus, food and beverage promotions and specials and various functions.

Carries out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
An ineffective delivery of service or the inability to maintain a customer service aptitude negatively impact client meetings, impair service delivery in other sections of the Conference Centre, or can hurt the Conference Centre s image.

Determines sequence of duties and response to client requirements. Inappropriate decisions may impair service delivery, harm the reputation of Conferences and Accommodation or even jeopardize future working relationships with groups and clients.

Supervision Received

Reports to the Banquet captains and takes direction from the Catering Manager.

Work is performed under general supervision in accordance with standard practice and reviewed on completion for adherence to standards. Unusual problems are referred to supervisor. Works from oral and written instructions, simple drawings, floor plans, and within policies and procedures guidelines.

Supervision Given
May assist in training of new Housestaff.

Schedule

Shifts may start as late as 10pm and ends as early as 5am.

Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation and a valid BC driver's license or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include mornings, evening, graveyards, weekends and holidays.
Good verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.
Familiarity with location and layout of campus facilities.
Good knowledge of audio visual equipment and other conference equipment requirements.
Physical ability to lift 30 kg.
