Job description

Current Employees:

If you are a current Staff, Faculty or Temporary employee at the University of Miami, please click here to log in to Workday to use the internal application process. To learn how to apply for a faculty or staff position, please review this tip sheet.

The Department of Political Science in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Miami seeks applicants for a tenure-track/tenure-eligible faculty appointment in Political Science. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor and will begin August 15, 2027.

We seek a political scientist whose research focuses on comparative politics. We welcome applications from scholars studying any substantive area within comparative politics. The successful candidate will strengthen and expand the department's comparative politics curriculum while supporting existing instructional needs, including routine teaching of our introductory comparative politics course. We are especially interested in candidates with strong methodological training who can contribute to the department's offerings in research methods and data analysis and, where appropriate, to the University's popular Law and Politics minor.

We seek faculty of exceptional promise or established national prominence whose scholarship will enrich and expand the department's research profile and educational curriculum. Successful candidates will maintain an active and visible research agenda, contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring, and participate fully in the intellectual life of the department, College, and University. The successful candidate will help increase the College's research capacity, expand existing strengths in global and comparative political research, and contribute to building a nationally and internationally recognized area of excellence.

The position offers opportunities to leverage existing faculty networks and partnerships while creating new avenues for interdisciplinary collaboration and scholarly visibility. The University of Miami provides exceptional opportunities for interdisciplinary and international engagement. The successful candidate may find opportunities for collaboration across the College and University, including with faculty in the School of Law and other units. Candidates interested in international and experiential learning may also contribute to existing study abroad programs and develop new opportunities for student engagement abroad.

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Political Science by the start date of the appointment.

Interested applicants must apply online through the University’s Careers Website. Applicants should compile the following into a single PDF document and upload it under the CV/Resume link: cover letter, CV, research statement, and a teaching statement focusing on your ability to contribute to the undergraduate political science / public administration majors through teaching and mentoring activities. Please arrange for three reference letters to be sent directly to the search chair at umpolsearch@miami.edu. Applications received on or before November 30, 2026, will be given full consideration, though the committee will continue to accept applications until the position is filled.

For further information about the position please contact Dr. Casey Klofstad, Chair, umpolsearch@miami.edu. Additional information about the department is available at http://www.as.miami.edu/politicalscience/.
