The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Physical Therapy has an exciting opportunity for a part time Physical Therapist 3 to work in Miami, FL. The Physical Therapist III provides effective and efficient rehabilitation services to patients and clients in accordance with the APTA guidelines for physical therapy. The Physical Therapist III collaborates with healthcare teams that include physicians, occupational therapists, and psychologists.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Performs evaluations of new patients to include the establishment of goals and appropriate treatment plans.
2. Progresses patients through different levels of treatment within the patient’s maximum capabilities.
3. Documents all evaluations, treatments, and other pertinent patient interactions.
4. Provides relevant education to patients and families regarding medical conditions.
5. Maintains effective communication with all members of the rehabilitation team.
6. Communicates with physicians and their staff to obtain additional information and suggests revisions in treatment.
7. Participates in quality and safety improvement activities.
8. Orients, instructs, and directs work activities for assistants and support personnel.
9. Supervises and instructs physical therapy students according to professional guidelines.
10. Provides or participates in educational programs for staff, patients, and the community at large.
11. Represents the University at non-departmental conferences and seminars.
12. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Doctorate degree in relevant field required

Minimum 7 years of relevant experience required
Valid State of Florida Physical Therapist license required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.

Experience:

  • 7 years of relevant experience

  • Certification as a Clinical Instructor (CI)

  • 640 hours of Physical Therapy student instruction as a CI

  • Approved minimum 100 hour - curriculum of courses to advance specified clinical expertise

  • Productivity attainment

  • Fulfillment of 5 professional development / engagement activities from the Clinical ladder Checklist

  • For Acute care “Senior Specialist” criteria: must also include all 6 acute care rotations, including all critical care rotations (CVICU, SICU,MICU, NICU)

Department Specific Functions

Functions:

  • Utilizes treatment tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.

    • Walker, crutches, cane, wheelchair, lift equipment, hospital beds, commodes, goniometer, traction units, ultrasound machine, electrical stimulation machines, iontophoresis, vasopneumatic pump, cuff weights, pulley weights, isokinetic exercise equipment, and general office equipment (telephone, computer, facsimile machine, and copier).

  • Communicate with physicians and their staff directly, or electronically, by phone, or in writing.  Obtain necessary additional information and suggest revisions in treatment as appropriate.

  • Maintains a satisfactory level of productivity and demonstrates willingness to adjust personal schedule in case of crisis or real clinic need.

  • Participate in quality and safety improvement activities as directed by the Satellite / Facility Clinical Coordinator.

  • Orient, instruct and direct work activities for assistants and support personnel.

  • Participate in program development and marketing efforts as directed by the Department Director.

  • Participate in program development and marketing efforts as directed by the Satellite / Facility Clinical Coordinator.

  • Provide or participate in educational programs for staff, patients, and the community at large.

  • Attends non-departmental Grand Rounds to represent the Department of Physical Therapy and acquire information from our larger medical community to disseminate relevant information for staff development and service delivery.

  • Participate in reviewing current evidence-based interventions, and may perform data collection or participate in a publishing effort for publication or quality improvement.

  • Serves as an advanced clinician to support the department’s educational mission through mentorship and training of residents and students, and provide support for the health system’s development initiatives.

  • Demonstrates advancement effort of professional development and serves as a role model for junior clinicians.

  • Perform other duties as directed by the Satellite / Facility Clinical Coordinator, or Associate Chair for Clinical Service.
