Reporting to the Director of Research Engagement Strategy and Implementation, the Research Engagement (RE) Associate supports Notre Dame researchers in expanding the reach and societal impact of their work. This position works closely with faculty, campus partners, and community organizations to develop meaningful Broader Impacts, community partnerships, and workforce development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Consult with researchers during proposal development to identify, develop, and strengthen Broader Impacts and community partnership plans.
  • Provide guidance and direct support to researchers in developing engagement strategies that align with sponsor expectations and community needs.
  • Collaborate with researchers and community partners to develop coordinated Broader Impacts and workforce development partnership plans that leverage existing expertise, programs, and resources.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with campus and community partners and connect researchers with potential collaborators and resources.
  • Cultivate workforce development partnerships across the local region and support the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of scalable workforce development programs.
  • Organize and deliver the Excellence in Mentorship workshop for Notre Dame graduate students and help develop and pilot new education, outreach, and workforce development initiatives.
  • Represent Research Engagement Strategy and Implementation, as assigned, on large-scale proposals and initiatives related to workforce development.
  • Track and document researcher consultations, partnerships, programs, and activities.
  • Develop presentations, reports, program materials, and other resources to communicate research engagement activities and impact.
  • Support the Director with special projects and initiatives that advance the goals of Research Engagement Strategy and Implementation.
  • Work effectively with diverse stakeholders across disciplines, organizations, and communities while maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Master’s degree
  • 1+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with grant proposals and processes, and familiarity with externally funded sponsors, particularly the National Science Foundation
  • Experience working in higher education or a research environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with campus and/or community partners
  • Experience implementing education, outreach, mentorship, or workforce development programs

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong relationship-building skills and high emotional intelligence
