Job Description Summary

Public Dental Health Hygienists with Penn Dental Medicine are responsible for managing clinical operations, patient care and dental student education.

Tasks include: Implement existing PDM clinical and educational policies to ensure optimum patient care and dental student education. Appointment scheduling, billing, operations and
direct patient care. Develop, implement and evaluate oral health educational programs at community sites. Supervise students and provide dental hygiene care as a licensed public health dental hygiene practitioner.

Job Description

  • Ensure appropriate appointment scheduling, billing, fee collection and patient communication is completed and documented in the electronic health record.

  • Ensure all clinical operations activities are consistent with PDM policies and procedures and documented in PDM records. Including inventory/supply management; instrument sterilization.

  • Supervise and grade dental students in close collaboration with the supervising dentist faculty on PDM educational policies and procedures.

  • Supervise and provide dental hygiene care as a public health dental hygiene practitioner.

  • Develop, implement and evaluate oral health educational programs at community sites.

  • Other duties as assigned. Provide and maintain expertise in innovative solutions focused on the responsible stewardship of Penn Dental Medicine and its community experience.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE & POSITION EXPECTATIONS

  • An Associate's Degree or two year college equivalent and 3 years to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

  • Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner certification is required.

  • CPR certification required

  • Employment clearance through the State of PA to work on/with children: as determined through Pennsylvania Criminal Background Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse, Clearance and FBI Finger Printing Database is required.

  • Experience with Axium, higher education preferred.

  • Fluency in communicating in Spanish language both orally and written a plus.

  • Ability to accommodate different scheduling requirements based on the operational needs of the clinic.
