Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Completes defined scope and standards of practice. Engages in environmental scanning to identify practice gaps and collaborates with others in improving practice and healthcare outcomes. Functions as a learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for scientific inquiry, advocate for Nursing Professional Development (NPD) specialty, and partner for practice transitions. Supports learning, change, professional role competence and growth, which ultimately lead to optimal patient care, population health, and protection of the public.

The Cardiac ICU is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist, Clinical Nurse Leader, or Nurse Educator for an exciting opportunity to work across the spectrum of clinical services, including advanced and chronic heart failure, heart transplant, mechanical circulatory support, and complex cardiac medical and surgical patients. The main area of focus for this Nurse Professional Development (NPD) Specialist will be to coordinate activities with a focus on orientation, in-services, competency development, documentation, and compliance with all standards of care.   The NPD Specialist will work to assess, design/develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs assuring all regulatory requirements are met.  Duties will include assisting with established CICU orientation program, planning and coordinating educational in-services for staff conducted by professionals both within and outside the center, and serving as a resource for staff. Interested candidates must have a strong clinical base as well as an interest and background in quality assurance, care management, patient safety, orientation, continuing education, and customer service. The NPD Specialist will work closely with the CICU Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Managers, Advanced Practice Providers, Physician Leaders and staff nurses to continually assess educational needs and outcomes for all nursing levels, novice through expert. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, and commitment to upholding the IICARE values of URMC are a must. Requirements: 5 years of experience in critical care with advanced therapies, strong computer skills, MS Nursing or current matriculation. Experience in advanced heart failure therapies including mechanical circulatory support highly desired.
