The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

Performs duties and responsibilities associated with the body donor program and provides for the needs of educational, service, and research programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists families in regard to donation of remains to the University’s body donor program. Makes removals from, and deliveries to public and private institutions. Designates appropriate uses of donor remains in accordance with rules and regulations pursuant to the provisions of the Public Health Law of the State of New York and the National Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards of the United States Inc.
  • Receives donations and completes death certificates, files death certificates with the Bureau of Vital Statistics on behalf of the family and the University. Obtains burial or cremation permits as required. Maintains records of all committed and received remains as well as ultimate disposal records. Signs and returns each New York State burial, transit, or cremation permits to the Bureau of Vital Statistics as necessary.
  • Performs embalming procedures. Cremates remains and arranges for return of the ashes to families, or ultimate disposal as programmatically defined. Operates and maintains an embalming laboratory, cadaver storage facility, and crematorium. Maintains Gross Anatomy laboratories.
  • Provides services and supplies specimens to University programs or associated educational, service or research institutions. Works closely with department heads regarding medical post-graduate training programs and professional medical staff skills maintenance activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Graduation from Mortuary Science and Embalming School and 2 years of related work experience and developed degree of sensitivity and professional deportment required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Capable of handling heavy weights and be able to work highly irregular working hours and operational arrangements required
  • Registry-eligible for Sextant of the University of Rochester Crematorium facility required


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Funeral License by the State of New York as a Registered Funeral Director/Embalmer upon hire required and
  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State by the State of New York upon hire required
