This is a 6-month fixed-term position, benefits-eligible, with the possibility of extension or becoming permanent.

Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC is seeking a Dental Assistant to join the Pediatric Dentistry Team! We are looking for a highly energetic Bilingual English/Spanish candidate who likes working in a fast-paced environment, as our clinic can see up to 30-40 patients a day! The highly motivated individual will perform a combination of duties including both administrative and comprehensive chair-side assisting services for patients during dental treatment procedures. We expect this individual to be in line with the values of teamwork, effective communication, display respect to others, and a willingness to learn.

Responsibilities include:

  • Sets up treatment/clinical area for patients
  • Obtains dental history and records from patients
  • Prepares materials for making impressions and restorations
  • Maintains inventory of dental instruments, equipment, and supplies in the dental operatory
  • Assists with patient registration and provide patient education and treatment planning
  • The individual must be able to work independently with moderate technical guidance
     

Job Accountabilities:

  • Four handed dentistry/chair side assistant for all procedures; this includes:
    • Sedations
    • Assisting residents during comprehensive dental treatment done in the operating room.
       
  • Translating English to Spanish and Spanish to English
  • Taking digital x-rays & panoramic radiographs and assisting with all clinic duties
  • Sterilize instruments

The hourly rate for this position is $22.00/hour. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience. Education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum Education: Specialized/technical training
Minimum Experience: 6 - 12 months
Minimum Field of Expertise: Graduation from an accredited Dental Assistant program. Six to twelve months of chair-side experience in a dental environment or private practice in one or more recognized dental disciplines (general/prosthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, oral surgery, pedodontics, orthodontics, special patients). Working knowledge of HIPAA compliance, PPO, and dental terminology. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal patient service skills, and ability to multi-task. Working knowledge of proper sterilization and instrument management techniques. Demonstrated experience in a high volume, fast-pace environment. Demonstrated team-oriented and collaborative work style. Ability to travel to and from work at various local locations.
