Job description

The USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy (IYA) is seeking a Graduate Advisor II to provide comprehensive guidance and support to its undergraduate and graduate students. The advisor will collaborate with students, families, faculty, administrators, and university partners to deliver high-quality services across academic advising, registration, recruitment, career development, and student programming.

Founded in 2013 by USC in partnership with entrepreneurs Jimmy Iovine and Andre “Dr. Dre” Young, IYA offers a distinctive interdisciplinary educational experience at the intersection of technology, design, business, and communication. The Academy prepares students to think critically, collaborate across disciplines, and develop innovative, human-centered solutions to complex challenges.

The Graduate Advisor II may also provide leadership and guidance to other advisors, establish priorities and timelines, resolve complex student-service matters, and interpret university policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide academic counseling on curriculum, degree requirements, transfer credit, academic progress, and graduation clearance.
  • Maintain student records and coordinate registration, grading, enrollment verification, degree progress, petitions, and related activities.
  • Evaluate students’ academic, administrative, or personal concerns and connect them with appropriate university resources.
  • Support recruitment strategies, outreach programs, school visits, receptions, college fairs, and other recruiting events.
  • Advise prospective students and families regarding admissions, financial aid, housing, and academic requirements.
  • Coordinate internships, career programming, and employment opportunities for students and alumni.
  • Plan and support student events such as orientation, commencement, receptions, and award ceremonies.
  • Develop or update student-facing materials, including handbooks, guides, newsletters, fact sheets, and brochures.
  • Advise student organizations and assist with special student programs.
  • Participate in departmental, school, college, or university committees addressing student-services matters.
  • Compile student-services data and prepare reports for internal and external audiences.
  • Remain current on university policies and regulations relating to admissions, registration, financial aid, academic requirements, petitions, and graduation.
  • Provide guidance to other student-services staff and help resolve non-routine questions or concerns.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least three years of directly related experience in student services and programming.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or guide the work of others.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret policies, manage competing priorities, maintain accurate records, and work collaboratively with diverse constituencies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or doctoral degree.
  • Experience providing academic advising or other specialized student services in a college or university setting.
  • Experience coordinating recruitment, career, or student-engagement programs.
  • Familiarity with student information systems and university policies and procedures.

In addition, the successful candidate must also demonstrate, through ideas, words and actions, a strong commitment to USC’s Unifying Values.

The hourly range for this position is $30.00-$35.90. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
