The University of Southern California (USC) Department of Facilities Planning & Management (FPM) is seeking a Material Handler I to join its team.

The Work You Will Do

The Material Handler I Receives, processes, and delivers incoming orders and/or packs and ships outgoing orders. transfers materials from the storage area to the ordering department and/or relocates materials within the storage area. also makes pick-ups and deliveries, as required.

The Material Handler I:

  • Processes orders for delivery. Loads and delivers merchandise to department, sales floor, or other designated location

  • Verifies merchandise shipments received against purchase orders, packing slips, and/or waybills. Check the order for completeness and possible damage.

  • Prepares, packs, and ships all outgoing merchandise (including returns) according to department procedures.

  • Picks up and delivers materials across campus, as assigned.

  • Accepts incoming shipments upon arrival at dock. Removes merchandise from belt and moves it to appropriate area of stockroom and/or sales floor, if required.

  • Transfers materials from stockroom, warehouse, or other storage facility to ordering department and/or relocates materials within storage facility, as assigned. You may be required to use a hand truck, forklift, hoist, motorized conveyor, or other material-handling equipment

  • Logs shipments, completes and forwards paperwork in a timely manner, as assigned, and files paperwork, as assigned.

  • Matches prices on invoices, prices merchandise, if applicable

  • Maintains general order and cleanliness of the area, including removal of trash, as assigned.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

  • The hourly rate range for this position is $20.71 -22.22. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Job Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position of Material Handler I meets the following preferred qualifications:

  • May require the ability to operate a forklift and other material handling equipment and to use scales, postage meters, UPS machines, and other similar machines.

All candidates for the position of *** Material Handler I *** must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • High school or equivalent Combined experience/education as a substitute for minimum education

  • One year of experience Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum work experience

  • Valid California driver's license with a minimum of 2 years driving experience
