Job description

The Keck School of Medicine, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking a Part-time Pathologists’ Assistant to join its team.

 

As an active member of the surgical pathology team, the Pathologists’ Assistant will function as an active member of the anatomic pathology team and assist pathologists as necessary. Performs high complexity testing and is responsible for performing duties associated with the gross examination and prosection of tissue for histological examination for both surgical and autopsy pathology.

 

Acts as a key contact person for pathologists, grossing and histology staff to identify problem areas and recommend changes to workflow.  Assists with intraoperative consultations, including fresh specimen and triage research tissue collection. Participates in the instruction of residents, fellows, and/or students.

 

The Keck School of Medicine Department of Pathology is one of the largest pathology departments in the United States. The Department aims to shape the future of pathology as it will be practiced in community hospitals, academic medical centers and clinical laboratories throughout the country.

Shift: Monday – Friday 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm 

Hourly range

The hourly rate range for this position is $71.10 - $86.77. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree Specialized/technical training Pathology

Minimum Certifications: PA certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology, or must obtain certificate within 90 days of hire.
Addtional Education Requirements Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Minimum Experience: 1 year

Minimum Skills: Completion of an accredited pathology assistant training program, or must graduate within 90 days of hire.
Preferred Education: Master's degree Biology Or Master's degree Medical Technology Or Master's degree in related field(s)

Preferred Experience: 3 years
Preferred Skills: Three years of proven, documented experience in anatomical/surgical pathology.
