Job description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Perioperative Services Orderly is responsible for transporting or assisting in the transport of surgical patients to and from Perioperative Area.
  • Assists the Perioperative Nursing staff with moving and positioning patients within the Perioperative Area, utilizing sound principles of body mechanics.
  • Adheres to all Infection Control Policies & Procedures especially in handwashing and isolation protocols.
  • Adheres to Handoff Communication among caregivers.
  • Any special equipment needed for transport is available and ready for use.
  • Maintains inventory of designated supplies and equipment at appropriate levels. 
  • Maintains designated equipment for proper functioning. 
  • Participates in the orientation of new staff and demonstrates flexibility in accepting and completing assignments.
  • Uses equipment and supplies in a cost effective and responsible manner and actively supports cost containment efforts. 
  • Is both self-directed and collegial, contributing positively to overall customer service and patient satisfaction.
  • Completes duties as assigned by manager or designee. 
  • Responsible for adhering to hospital policies, Title 22, and JCAHO Standards
  • Is a team player.
  • Displays positive attitude.
  • Collaborates with licensed staff on issues related to patient needs and communicates to enhance outcomes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Patient Transport:

Prioritizes assignments and workload to ensure timely and efficient patient transport. Applies principles of body mechanics in transporting patients, beds, or other equipment. Safely transports patients to and from surgery. Assists Same Day Surgery & PACU RN’s when requested.

Clinical Support:

Arranges workload assignments to ensure availability for assisting with nursing staff needs in the OR, PACU, and Pre/Post-Op areas. Gathers and assists in assembling supplies, equipment or positioning aids needed for perioperative patient care. Stocks designated supplies in the OR, PACU, and Pre/Post-Op areas.

Infection Control Practices:

Adheres to universal precautions. Adheres to aseptic technique.

Supplies and Equipment:

Maintains inventory of designated supplies and equipment at appropriate par levels. Maintains equipment for proper functioning. Maintains adequate inventory and variety of compressed gas tanks.

Job Requirements

Education    

Minimum (Required)  High School diploma or equivalent

Work Experience

Preferred (Not required)  One year as a nursing assistant or orderly in an acute hospital setting.

Licenses and Certifications    

Minimum (Required)   Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare from American Heart Association

Pay Transparency

The hourly rate range for this position is $21.00 - $25.63. The Perioperative Services Tech, under the direction of the Perioperative Services Staff RN, is responsible for the care and safety of any patients assigned to the tech and for performing technical and support duties for assigned areas of Perioperative Services
