Description:

The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Divisions of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics of the University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health System (SHS) are seeking to recruit a Clinician Teacher, Internal Medicine, SHS. The successful candidate should have an interest in both inpatient and ambulatory general internal medicine. They will also be expected to participate in teaching activities at both the undergraduate and graduate medical education level. Candidates must currently hold or be eligible for a University of Toronto full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor  or Professor and should fulfill the academic position description of a Clinician Teacher. Effective start date will be between July 2027, or sooner as mutually agreed upon.

This Clinician Teacher (CT) position will be primarily based at Sinai Health and involve 75% clinical care, 20% scholarly activities and 5% administrative service. Clinical care is comprised of 24-26 weeks/year of clinical service, including: 6-10 weeks of Clinical Teaching Unit and 14-18 weeks of consults, hospital medicine inpatient service and ambulatory clinics, with informal clinical teaching while on service. Specifically, we are looking for someone with experience and expertise in Sinai’s GIM obstetrical medicine service (consult and clinic), with potential for leadership in this area. Scholarly activities include formal teaching (40-50+ hours per year across multiple learner levels with an emphasis on sustained excellence in teaching at the undergraduate MD and postgraduate MD levels; as well as creative professional activities related to education, including curriculum development and novel approaches to teaching & education, with evidence of impact outside local settings). Please note that while CTs are assigned a primary site (SH); occasional secondary clinical work at a UHN site is encouraged. The mix of clinical and educational responsibilities will depend on the successful candidate’s background and the needs of the Division. Competitive candidates will possess outstanding communication, teaching, organizational and interpersonal skills that enable them to work collaboratively with other physicians, learners, hospital staff and administrators.

Candidates must have advanced academic training that is relevant to their position description (master’s degree, doctoral degree or equivalent, see Table 2 on the Clinical Faculty Academic Appointments page for more details). Candidates must also have a record of excellence in their area of interest. For applicants being considered for appointment as a Clinician Teacher, excellence will be assessed by the presence of scholarly contributions to teaching and education as evidenced by pedagogical innovation, curriculum development, experience in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, and teaching awards.

Successful candidates must hold MD qualifications, be certified (or be eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in General Internal Medicine, or hold international equivalent and be licensed (or be eligible for licensure) by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Subspecialty certification in General Internal Medicine is preferred.

Academic rank, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidates. Compensation will be negotiated and within the usual income range for an academic general internist in the Province of Ontario (estimated range is $280,000-350,000 per year).

Applications will be accepted until November 25, 2026 or until the position is filled. Interested individuals should send a copy of their letter of interest, curriculum vitae and the names and contact information for three references to:
