Course title: MUS4112Y/MUS7407H  Music & Health-Clinical Performance/Research Practicum

Supervisor: Corene Thaut

Course description:  This course is designed to give the students an opportunity to practice and apply what they are learning in class to real clinical populations. Clinical practicum placements will take place in community centres, hospitals, senior residences, nursing homes, Alzheimer’s and memory clinics, Parkinson’s research and treatment centres as well as the UofT Music and Health Research Collaboratory (MaHRC). Examples of activities include performing music, teaching music, leading singing and instrumental improvisation activities, and using music to enhance speech or mobility.

Estimated enrolment in course: 15

Dates of appointment: September 8, 2026-April 30, 2027

Hours: 140

Class schedule: TBA

Salary: Sessional Instructional Assistant.  Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications: Graduate degree in music therapy or equivalent background and PhD in Music and Health Sciences or equivalent background.

Duties: This course will be delivered in-person. Sessional Instructional Assistants duties will include: supervision and mentorship of clinical placements, small group discussions and assignments; grading written assignments and giving feedback; video-taping student clinical work and processing therapeutic skills with students; maintain records; set up and maintain email lists; distribute email communication.
