Description:
The Risk and Resilience Specialist plays a key role in the continued development, implementation and administration of the University’s Enterprise Risk Management, Insurance, and Business Continuity programs. The incumbent is responsible for independently managing the day-to-day delivery of the University’s enterprise risk management and business continuity programs and providing senior analytical and program support to the insurance portfolio.
In this dynamic role, the Risk and Resilience Specialist is reporting to the Director, Enterprise Risk Management & Insurance. The role facilitates risk assessments; develops frameworks, tools and resources to support consistent risk management practices; and facilitates institution-wide business continuity and resilience activities.
The Risk and Resilience Specialist is responsible for moving initiatives from concept through implementation, monitoring progress, identifying emerging issues and ensuring risk management activities remain aligned with institutional priorities. The role requires the ability to build relationships, influence without direct authority and translate complex risk information into practical recommendations.
The Risk and Resilience Specialist works with the Director, Enterprise Risk Management & Insurance to develop and manage systems (and related protocols) to maintain timely, detailed, secure, and confidential case files and records, which adhere to all University retention and FIPPA policies.
Qualifications Required:
I. EDUCATION:
University degree in business administration, risk management, finance, public administration, or another relevant discipline, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
II. EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in enterprise risk management, business continuity, project management, or a related discipline, preferably within a university, public-sector, or similarly complex organization.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex initiatives involving multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
- Experience maintaining databases, registers, trackers, records, and document-management systems.
- Experience conducting risk assessment and translating complex information into clear, practical recommendations.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with individuals across multiple organizational levels.
- Experience collecting, reviewing, consolidating, and presenting information for reports, dashboards, briefing notes, or presentations.
- Experience leading multi-stakeholder projects is an asset.
III. SKILLS:
- Excellent facilitation, consultation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong written communication skills, including experience preparing professional correspondence, reports, meeting materials, and presentations.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including and not limited to, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
IV. OTHER:
- Demonstrated ability to independently plan, prioritize and execute complex work with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to monitor multiple deliverables, manage competing priorities, and follow-up effectively on outstanding actions
- Ability to exercise sound judgement, discretion, diplomacy, and tact when working with sensitive and confidential information.
- Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
