Job Summary:

Research Nurse (Clinical Trials) — Monday–Friday | Day Shift | Local Travel

In this key role, you’ll help protect the integrity and quality of clinical research trials while supporting participants and study teams. With guidance from leadership and established procedures, you will coordinate recruitment and enrollment activities and ensure strict adherence to study protocols and regulatory requirements.

Key Duties/Tasks
Support the conduct of clinical research trials in alignment with study protocols, GCP, and applicable regulations
Plan and implement participant recruitment strategies and screening workflows
Coordinate and manage participant enrollment and study visits
Maintain accurate, timely study documentation and source data
Communicate effectively with investigators, sponsors, and internal clinical teams to support trial execution and compliance

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience
Active Tennessee Registered Nurse license
Clinical trials experience preferred (2+ years strongly desired)
Ob-Gyn experience is a plus
Experience with Workday and eStar is a plus

Schedule & Travel
Monday–Friday, traditional daytime business hours
Must be able to travel to sites up to 50 miles from the VUMC campus
Mileage reimbursement provided

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

In order to address the pressing needs of women in today’s world, the  Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at VUMC is dedicated to excellence in clinical and population women’s health care, to training the next generation of women’s health care providers, and to answering important clinical and biologic questions in women’s health.  Our faculty consists of more than 170 physicians, midwives and nurse practitioners housed in the clinical divisions of General Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM), Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS), Gynecologic Oncology, Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Focused sections and services in complex family planning, pediatric and adolescent gynecology, PCOS, maternal addiction, cardiovascular disease in pregnancy, lower genital tract diseases, transgender medicine, menopausal medicine, and community/global health complement our divisional structure. One Hundred Oaks and the Vanderbilt University Hospital serve as our main ambulatory and inpatient facilities, but we have grown to have nearly 10 ambulatory sites, a birthing center and five outreach practices. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conveys a basic knowledge and understanding of policies, procedures, and regulations governing human subject's research and incorporates them in the conduct of research and care of participants.
• With assistance, prepares and processes new research proposals, amendments, continuing review applications and adverse events.
• Perform administrative duties for trials, including but not limited to: Procuring equipment, preparing documentation, and packaging and shipping medications.
• Utilize nursing skills to perform procedures, deliver individualized care, and abide by research protocols.
• Recruit and identify the eligibility of candidates, regularly assessing them to ensure continued eligibility for participation.
• Actively identifies and participates in training, education, and development activities to improve own knowledge and performance to sustain and enhance professional development.

• Nursing Patient Assessment & Evaluation (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience, training, direct exposure, or past experience working with nursing patient assessment and evaluations.
• Nursing Patient Education (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience, training, direct exposure, or past experience working with patient education.
• Care Planning (Fundamental Awareness): Establishes realistic personal work goals and objectives. Demonstrates ability to anticipate basic resource needs, identify distinct tasks, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work for own assignments and responsibilities. Prepares and presents clear and accurate status reports on projects and assignments.
• Evidence-Based Practice (Fundamental Awareness): Recognizes nursing practice is research-based and questions or demonstrates curiosity about the scientific basis of practice.
• Regulatory Compliance (Fundamental Awareness): Demonstrates knowledge of the appropriate rules and regulations and apply them in difficult, stressful and complex situations. Able to interpret and explain rules and regulations that are ambiguous or unclear. Directs others in interpreting rules and regulations on the job and trains others in them.
• Scientific Knowledge (Fundamental Awareness): Knowledge of different scientific studies including but not limited Biomedical, Applied, and Physical.
