Verdacert is a US-based certified translation service specializing in MENA-region and other civil-document translations for USCIS filings, US courts, universities, and medical providers. As part of our expansion into Bengali (Bangla) language coverage, we're looking for a Legal Bengali Translator to review and certify translations of civil, court, and immigration documents from Bengali into English (and vice versa as needed). This is a reviewer role: you'll work from AI-assisted first drafts and apply the linguistic precision and legal accuracy required for official filings.
What you'll do
- Review and edit machine-generated translations of civil and legal documents (birth certificates, marriage records, court documents, academic transcripts, police clearances, and similar) from Bengali to English
- Verify names, dates, and numeric data are transcribed exactly as they appear in source documents, applying standard transliteration conventions
- Sign certification statements attesting to translation accuracy and completeness in accordance with USCIS requirements (8 CFR § 103.2(b)(3))
- Preserve original document layout and formatting in the certified translation
- Flag documents with ambiguous terminology, regional dialect variation, or unclear source content for additional review
- Meet stated turnaround windows for standard, express, and rush orders
What we're looking for
- Native or near-native fluency in Bengali (Bangla) and professional fluency in English
- Demonstrated experience translating legal, civil, or immigration-related documents
- Strong working knowledge of certified translation standards and certification statement requirements for US immigration and court use
- Meticulous attention to detail, especially with proper nouns, dates, and official terminology
- Ability to work independently against deadlines ranging from same-day to 48-hour turnarounds
- Familiarity with Bangladeshi civil registry documents, academic transcripts, and court record conventions
Nice to have
- Prior experience as a certified or sworn translator
- Experience with Punjabi, Hindi, or other South Asian language pairs
- Background in immigration law, paralegal work, or a related legal field
