Job descriptionContract

Verdacert provides certified translations of civil and legal documents for use with USCIS, US courts, universities, and medical providers, with a particular specialization in MENA-region languages alongside a broader roster of supported languages including Chinese (Simplified). We're looking for a Legal Chinese (Simplified) Translator to join our reviewer network, translating and certifying documents from Chinese into English (and where needed, English into Chinese) for immigration, court, and related legal use cases.

What you'll do

  • Translate legal and civil documents such as court filings, contracts, affidavits, birth and marriage records, and academic transcripts from Chinese (Simplified) into English
  • Review and edit machine-generated first-draft translations for accuracy, completeness, and legal terminology
  • Apply correct transliteration conventions for proper nouns, names, and official titles
  • Sign and issue certification statements attesting to the accuracy and completeness of each translation, meeting the standard required for USCIS and court submissions
  • Preserve original document layout and formatting in the certified output
  • Meet defined turnaround windows, including rush and same-day requests when assigned

What we're looking for

  • Native or near-native fluency in Chinese (Simplified) and strong command of legal/formal English
  • Demonstrated experience translating legal, court, or immigration-related documents
  • Familiarity with certified translation standards and certification statement requirements
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly with names, dates, numbers, and official terminology
  • Ability to work independently against deadlines across a queue of documents
  • Comfort working within a digital review and delivery workflow

Nice to have

  • Prior experience translating for USCIS, immigration attorneys, or US courts
  • Background in legal studies, paralegal work, or professional translation certification
  • Experience with both Simplified and Traditional Chinese document conventions
