Verdacert is a US-based certified translation service specializing in MENA-region civil documents for immigration, court, university, and medical use, with reviewers working across the US and partner-country jurisdictions. We're looking for a Legal German Translator to join our reviewer network, translating and certifying German-language legal and civil documents into English for use in USCIS filings, US courts, and other official proceedings.
What you'll do
- Translate legal, civil, and court documents from German into English, including birth and marriage certificates, court judgments, contracts, affidavits, and academic transcripts
- Review and edit AI-generated first-draft translations for accuracy, completeness, and legal terminology
- Sign and issue certification statements attesting to the accuracy and completeness of each translation, consistent with 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3) requirements
- Preserve original document layout and apply correct transliteration conventions for names, dates, and official terms
- Meet defined turnaround windows (rush, express, and standard) for assigned documents
- Flag ambiguous source content, regional dialect variations, or formatting issues that could affect filing outcomes
What we're looking for
- Native or near-native fluency in German and English, with professional-level command of legal and civil document terminology in both languages
- Demonstrated experience translating legal, court, or immigration-related documents
- Familiarity with certified translation standards and certification statement requirements for US immigration or court filings
- Strong attention to detail, especially with names, dates, numbers, and official seals
- Ability to work independently against deadlines ranging from same-day to 48-hour turnaround
- Comfort working with a digital document workflow and reviewing AI-assisted draft translations
Nice to have
- Prior experience as a certified or sworn translator for German civil or court documents
- Familiarity with USCIS translation requirements or experience supporting immigration attorneys
- Experience with additional European or MENA-region languages
