Verdacert is a US-based certified translation service specializing in MENA-region civil and legal documents for immigration, court, university, and medical use, with native-speaker review on every translation. We are expanding our language coverage and are looking for a Legal Haitian Creole Translator to translate and certify legal and civil documents from Haitian Creole into English (and vice versa) for use in immigration filings, US courts, and other official proceedings.
What you'll do
- Translate legal and civil documents such as birth certificates, marriage records, court documents, affidavits, and police records between Haitian Creole and English
- Review machine-generated draft translations for accuracy, completeness, and faithful transliteration of names, dates, and numbers
- Prepare and sign certification statements attesting to the accuracy of each translation, consistent with USCIS regulatory requirements
- Preserve original document formatting and layout in the certified translation
- Flag documents with ambiguous terminology, regional dialect variation, or unclear source content for clarification
- Meet defined turnaround windows for standard, expedited, and rush orders
What we're looking for
- Native or near-native fluency in Haitian Creole and professional fluency in English
- Demonstrated experience translating legal, civil, or court documents
- Strong understanding of legal and civil document terminology and conventions in both Haitian Creole and English
- Meticulous attention to detail, especially with names, dates, and numerical data
- Ability to work within strict turnaround deadlines
- Comfort reviewing and editing AI-assisted draft translations
Nice to have
- Prior experience with USCIS-related certified translation work
- Familiarity with Haitian civil registry, court, or notarial document formats
- Certification or credentials in translation (e.g., ATA certification)
