Job descriptionContract

Verdacert is a US-based certified translation service specializing in MENA-region and other high-need languages for immigration, court, university, and medical use, with a growing set of supported languages that includes Hausa. We're looking for a Legal Hausa Translator to review and certify Hausa-English translations of civil and legal documents, ensuring every filing meets the accuracy standard required by USCIS, courts, and other institutional reviewers.

What you'll do

  • Translate and/or review Hausa-to-English translations of civil and legal documents such as birth certificates, marriage records, court documents, and affidavits
  • Verify that translations are complete, accurate, and faithful to the source document, with no omissions, additions, or summarization
  • Apply correct transliteration conventions to names, dates, and numbers per standard certification requirements
  • Sign certification statements attesting to translation accuracy and competency
  • Preserve original document layout and formatting in the finished translation
  • Meet defined turnaround deadlines, including rush and same-day requests when needed

What we're looking for

  • Native or near-native fluency in Hausa and English, both written and spoken
  • Demonstrated experience translating legal, civil, or official documents
  • Strong understanding of legal and administrative terminology in both languages
  • Familiarity with certified translation standards and certification statement requirements
  • Meticulous attention to detail, especially with names, dates, and numeric data
  • Ability to work within defined turnaround windows and manage multiple documents at once

Nice to have

  • Prior experience with USCIS-related or immigration document translation
  • Familiarity with Hausa regional dialects and document conventions from Nigeria, Niger, or other Hausa-speaking regions
  • Background in legal, paralegal, or court interpretation work
  • Experience working as part of a remote or freelance translator network
