Job descriptionContract

Verdacert provides USCIS-certified translations for languages including Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, Pashto, Dari, Turkish, and dozens of others, with every document reviewed by a native speaker before delivery. We are looking to add K'iche' to our supported languages by bringing on a Legal K'iche' Translator to produce certified translations of legal and civil documents for immigration filings, court proceedings, and related official use.

What you'll do

  • Translate legal, civil, and immigration-related documents (birth certificates, marriage records, court filings, affidavits, asylum statements, and similar) between K'iche' and English
  • Prepare certified translations that meet the format and language required by USCIS regulation 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), including a signed certification statement
  • Preserve original document layout and formatting in the translated output
  • Transliterate proper nouns, names, and places accurately and consistently, following applicant-preferred spellings when provided
  • Review and edit machine-generated draft translations for accuracy, completeness, and fidelity to the source document
  • Communicate directly with project leads on document questions, ambiguous source text, or rush timelines

What we're looking for

  • Native or near-native fluency in K'iche' and professional fluency in English
  • Demonstrated experience translating legal, civil, or immigration documents
  • Strong understanding of certified translation standards and certification statement requirements
  • Meticulous attention to detail with names, dates, numbers, and official terminology
  • Ability to work within defined turnaround windows, including rush and same-day requests
  • Comfort reviewing and editing draft translations for accuracy rather than translating fully from scratch each time

Nice to have

  • Prior experience with USCIS filings, asylum cases, or court-accepted translations
  • Familiarity with Guatemalan civil registry documents and regional K'iche' dialects
  • Experience working with translation agencies or as a certified/sworn translator
