Job descriptionContract

Verdacert provides USCIS-certified translations for immigration filings, court proceedings, university applications, and medical documentation, with a focus on native-speaker review and fast turnaround. We are looking for a Legal Lao Translator to join our network of native-speaker reviewers, translating legal and civil documents between Lao and English for use in immigration, court, academic, and medical contexts.

What you'll do

  • Translate civil, legal, and administrative documents (birth certificates, marriage records, court documents, academic transcripts, and similar) between Lao and English
  • Review and edit machine-generated first drafts for accuracy, completeness, and faithful transliteration of names, dates, and official terminology
  • Sign certification statements attesting to the accuracy and completeness of each translation in accordance with 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3)
  • Preserve original document layout and formatting in the final translated deliverable
  • Meet standard, express, and rush turnaround deadlines depending on order type
  • Flag inconsistencies, illegible text, or ambiguous source content to the project team before certification

What we're looking for

  • Native or near-native fluency in Lao and professional fluency in English
  • Demonstrated experience translating legal, civil, or official documents
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly with names, dates, and numerical data
  • Familiarity with Lao civil registry documents, court records, or academic credentialing conventions
  • Ability to meet tight turnaround windows, including rush and same-day requests
  • Comfort working with digital document handling tools and PDF-based workflows

Nice to have

  • Prior experience translating for USCIS or other US immigration filings
  • Certification or accreditation in translation (e.g., ATA or equivalent)
  • Experience with notarization or apostille-related documentation processes
