Job descriptionContract
Verdacert provides USCIS-certified translations for immigration filings, court proceedings, university applications, and medical documentation, with every translation reviewed by a native-speaker linguist before release. We're looking for a Legal Lingala Translator to join our reviewer network and produce certified, accurate translations of legal and civil documents between Lingala and English.
What you'll do
- Translate legal and civil documents (birth certificates, marriage records, court filings, affidavits, and related materials) between Lingala and English
- Review machine-generated first-draft translations for accuracy, completeness, and faithful transliteration of names and proper nouns
- Sign a formal certification statement attesting to the accuracy and completeness of each translation, meeting the standard cited under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3)
- Preserve original document layout and formatting in the translated output
- Flag ambiguous source content, illegible text, or discrepancies that could affect the accuracy of a certified filing
- Meet delivery deadlines ranging from standard to rush turnaround windows
What we're looking for
- Native or near-native fluency in Lingala and English
- Demonstrated experience translating legal, civil, or official documents
- Strong understanding of legal and bureaucratic terminology in both languages
- Meticulous attention to detail, particularly with names, dates, and numerical data
- Ability to work independently and meet firm deadlines, including rush requests
- Comfort signing a formal certification statement taking personal responsibility for translation accuracy
Nice to have
- Familiarity with Congolese (DRC) or Central African civil document formats and conventions
- Prior experience with USCIS, immigration, or court-related translation work
- Experience with certified translation or notarization workflows
