Verdacert provides USCIS-certified translations for immigration, legal, academic, and medical documents, with native-speaker review on every file. We're hiring a Legal Nuer Translator to join our network of native-speaking reviewers, producing accurate, certified translations of legal and civil documents between Nuer and English for use in immigration filings, court proceedings, and related official processes.
What you'll do
- Translate legal and civil documents (birth certificates, marriage records, court filings, asylum and immigration paperwork, and similar materials) between Nuer and English
- Review machine-generated first-draft translations for accuracy, completeness, and faithful transliteration of names, dates, and numbers
- Sign certification statements attesting to the accuracy and completeness of each translation, in a form that meets USCIS requirements under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3)
- Preserve original document layout and formatting in the translated output
- Flag inconsistencies, illegible content, or ambiguous source material to the project lead before certifying a document
- Meet stated turnaround windows, including rush and same-day requests when assigned
What we're looking for
- Native or near-native fluency in Nuer and professional fluency in English
- Demonstrated experience translating legal, civil, or immigration-related documents
- Familiarity with the document conventions and civil registry formats used in South Sudan and the broader Nuer-speaking region
- Strong attention to detail, particularly with proper nouns, dates, and numerical data
- Ability to work independently against firm deadlines
- Comfort reviewing and correcting machine-generated translation drafts
Nice to have
- Prior experience providing certified translations for USCIS, courts, or other US institutions
- Experience with asylum, humanitarian parole, or refugee resettlement case documentation
- Familiarity with transliteration standards for names appearing on US immigration forms
