Verdacert is a US-based certified translation company specializing in high-stakes document translation for immigration, court, university, and medical use, with a particular focus on the MENA region and a growing roster of additional languages, including Romanian. We're looking for a Legal Romanian Translator to join our reviewer network and provide certified, native-speaker-quality translations of civil and legal documents from Romanian into English (and potentially vice versa) for use in USCIS filings, US courts, and other official proceedings.
What you'll do
- Translate Romanian-language legal and civil documents into English, including birth certificates, marriage records, court documents, police clearances, academic transcripts, and related filings
- Review and edit machine-generated first-draft translations for accuracy, completeness, and fidelity to the source document
- Apply correct transliteration conventions for names, dates, and official terminology consistent with Romanian civil registry and legal document standards
- Sign certification statements attesting to the accuracy and completeness of each translation, in line with USCIS regulatory requirements (8 CFR § 103.2(b)(3))
- Preserve original document layout and formatting in the final translated deliverable
- Meet defined turnaround windows, which may include rush or same-day requests depending on order type
What we're looking for
- Native or near-native fluency in Romanian and English
- Demonstrated experience translating legal, civil, or official documents
- Strong working knowledge of Romanian legal and bureaucratic terminology (civil registries, court filings, notarial language, etc.)
- Meticulous attention to detail, especially with names, dates, and numerical data
- Ability to work within strict deadlines across multiple concurrent documents
- Comfort reviewing and editing AI-generated draft translations rather than always translating from scratch
Nice to have
- Prior experience with certified translations for USCIS, immigration attorneys, or US courts
- Familiarity with certification and notarization requirements for official document translation
- Experience translating academic transcripts, medical records, or professional licensing documents
- Background as a sworn or authorized translator in Romania or another jurisdiction
