Job Summary
Bird Canada is seeking a hands-on City Operations Manager to oversee daily operations in Kamloops. This person will serve as Bird’s local eyes and ears, ensuring vehicles are safe, rideable, properly deployed and available where riders need them. The role combines field operations, vehicle repair, warehouse and inventory management, Operations Partner coordination and performance reporting. The successful candidate will be comfortable moving between hands-on work and local leadership while keeping the Regional Manager informed of risks, opportunities and changing market conditions.
Responsibilities
- Own the day-to-day execution of Bird’s Kamloops operation, including deployment, battery swaps, rebalancing, retrievals, inspections and vehicle recovery.
- Monitor fleet health, deployment, task completion, customer reports, 311 concerns and operational issues requiring local attention.
- Perform vehicle diagnostics and repairs and maintain an organized repair queue to support fleet availability.
- Drive company vehicles and load, transport and unload scooters, bikes, batteries and operational equipment.
- Coordinate and support Operations Partners and seasonal workers, including task assignments, field training, performance expectations and deployment-quality checks.
- Ensure vehicles are deployed neatly, legally and in accordance with city requirements, approved parking locations and Bird operating standards.
- Manage local warehouse operations, parts, batteries, tools, vehicle inventory and asset-accountability processes.
- Track labour hours, completed work and operational metrics and provide accurate, timely reporting to the Regional Manager.
- Identify emerging risks and communicate them early, including staffing concerns, fleet issues, city complaints, weather impacts and unusual activity in the market.
- Support local events, partnerships and city initiatives in coordination with regional leadership.
- Participate in seasonal launch and shutdown work, including fleet recovery, winter storage, repair planning, scrap recovery and preparation for the following season.
- Respond flexibly to operational needs, including occasional early mornings, evenings and weekends during peak periods or urgent situations.
Must Haves
- Two or more years of relevant experience in field operations, logistics, fleet management, warehousing, vehicle repair or a comparable hands-on environment.
- Previous experience coordinating employees, contractors or independent operators is preferred.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and comfort diagnosing and completing basic vehicle repairs.
- Strong personal accountability and the ability to work independently without continuous supervision.
- Practical problem-solving skills and sound judgment in changing field conditions.
- Comfortable using mobile applications, spreadsheets and operational dashboards to manage work and report results.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with municipalities, vendors or community partners is an asset.
- Secondary school education or equivalent required.
- Valid driver’s licence and a satisfactory driving record required.
- Ability to regularly lift and move vehicles, batteries and equipment weighing approximately 50 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors and perform physical work in varying weather conditions.
- Must be based in or near Kamloops and legally eligible to work in Canada.
