Job description

About the Role

We’re looking for a talented and driven AI Product Engineer to join our team at Bunkerhill Health. Our platform processes over 200,000 CT scans and millions of patient records each year — directly improving patient outcomes across multiple health systems.

In this role, you’ll take ownership of product features end-to-end, from design through deployment, working closely with cross-functional partners to deliver software that impacts real patients. We do not have product managers, so a lot of what a PM would do at typical companies is the responsibility of an AI Product Engineer at Bunkerhill. You will be working on building and deploying cutting edge agentic workflows at scale. You’ll thrive if you enjoy solving diverse technical problems and working at the intersection of product and engineering. This role is primarily backend focused, with opportunities to contribute across the stack.

We have a beautiful sunny office in SoMa, San Francisco and we go in 4x a week!

Responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality, maintainable, and scalable technical work, with a strong focus on reliability, scalability, and readability.

  • Take full ownership of product features, from ideation and design to implementation, testing, and deployment.

  • Show initiative by staying current on emerging technologies and suggesting improvements to our stack and processes.

  • Demonstrate reliability through proactive communication, clear timelines, and the ability to unblock yourself and others when needed.

  • Spend time understanding and developing a deep intuition of the product that you're building

  • Collaborate across disciplines — with clinicians, end users, non-technical members of the team — by translating goals into clear, actionable, technical solutions.

  • Collaborate within engineering through active ideation, thoughtful code reviews, and helping teammates design and deliver robust solutions.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of full-time software engineering experience

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field.

  • Strong ability to learn and adapt to new languages, frameworks, and technologies.

  • Proficiency in at least one backend language: Our stack is primarily Python + Rust

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

  • A genuine interest in applying technology to improve healthcare.

  • Comfort using AI coding tools

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with infrastructure tooling: Kubernetes, Helm, Kustomize, Terraform, AWS/GCP.

  • Experience with Python frameworks such as Django or Celery.

  • Experience with or interest in Rust.

  • Familiarity with frontend languages and frameworks like Typescript and React

  • Willingness to interface with end users and assist with use case discovery

  • Comfort interacting with LLM tooling and willingness to learn about agentic workflows

Benefits & Compensation

  • Equity

  • Comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision, commuter, and 401(k))

  • Professional development and growth opportunities

What applying to Bunkerhill Health usually looks like

Based on publicly available information, candidates applying through ashby can generally expect a streamlined online application process, often starting with a form requesting a resume and possibly responses to short screening questions. For roles such as ai-engineer, forward-deployed-engineer, program-manager, or general-application positions, the process may include multiple stages, potentially involving recruiter conversations, technical or role-specific assessments, and interviews with team members or hiring managers. Communication is commonly handled through automated updates within the platform, though response times vary depending on the organization's hiring needs and volume of applicants. Candidates should typically prepare to discuss their relevant experience, technical skills, and motivation for the role. As with most ashby-based hiring processes, it is advisable to ensure application materials are clear, tailored, and complete, since organizations using this ATS often value structured and efficient candidate evaluation methods, such as those potentially used by Bunkerhill Health.
