Job description

As we enter a transformative era of philanthropy, we are seeking an Assistant Director, University Events and Engagement to join our team.

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of University Events and Engagement, this role is responsible for supporting and helping manage reunion programming with the Reunion team, including events and overseeing the ambassador engagement program.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Planning, executing and evaluating reunion events and programs.

  • Collaborating with supervisor on reunion engagement objectives to establish appropriate engagement efforts of reunion strategy.

  • Strategically developing, planning, and implementing reunion experiences for alumni celebrating graduation landmarks, including developing regional and virtual programming throughout the academic year.

  • Recruiting, training, and retaining volunteers to assist in multiple areas of planning, execution and promotion of their class reunion.

  • Overseeing volunteer committees to incorporate a robust program inclusive of university priorities, tradition and philanthropy.

  • Execute volunteer training inclusive of virtual and in person components, as well as developing volunteer recognition and stewardship components.

  • Evaluating and reporting progress on goals as it relates to reunion volunteers.

  • Creating and maintaining the reunion operational budget and identifies avenues of flexibility while maintaining strict adherence to the bottom line.

  • Leveraging existing annual giving schedules and development portfolios and all available data analytics to maximize donor and dollar results for reunion years.

  • Identifying opportunities within the programmatic schedule to incorporate appropriate and applicable philanthropy efforts, including recognition and announcement of goals progress and achievement.

  • Partnering with University Advancement Communications team to create strategies around a complete online presence, social media content as well as print, text and email promotion.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • 1-3 years of event planning experience

  • Alumni relations experience preferred

A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check

  • Valid state driver's license. Must complete a driver's license verification on an annual basis and complete the National Safety Council's Defensive Driving training program once every three years.

  • Sponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.  Carnegie Mellon is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.
