The successful candidate will be committed to providing excellent customer service, and a talent for interacting and communicating effectively with all types of patients, visitors, healthcare providers, and support staff. This person works best in high-traffic medical offices and is flexible and creative in addressing and solving problems. Must have a high comfort with computers and electronic health record use (EHR).

  • Serving as the first and last point of contact for students, staff, and visitors. This person sets the tone for a calm, welcoming experience for patients who may be unwell or unfamiliar with the process.

  • Assisting with timely check-in and check-out of patients at the front desk, communication with patients about wait time, and maintaining the flow of patients through the facility.

  • Utilizing technical skills such as scanning and entering basic patient information in the electronic medical record system or emailing computer support for more complicated problems affecting technical services in UHS. Work on a computer, Google Suite, and other programs daily.

  • Receiving and welcoming patients and visitors, front office support includes processing electronic faxes; answering phones and directing calls; sorting and sending mail; receiving and verifying deliveries; operating copier, scanners, and printers.

  • Reviewing and verifying electronic charge tickets in order to charge students accurate payments and processing credit card payments to complete payment for services at time of discharge.

  • Providing clerical support for office procedures including patient referral tracking and processing patient information requests.

  • Other duties as assigned.

You should demonstrate:

  • Strong oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Organization and planning skills

Adaptability, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within Carnegie Mellon University. We are in search of a team member who can effectively interact with a varied population of internal and external partners at a high level of integrity. We are looking for someone who shares our values and who will support the mission of the university through their work.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • 3-5 years of experience in customer service, administrative support, and/or data entry experience required

  • Experience in a medical office preferred

A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check

  • Child Protection Clearances (Act 153)

Schedule:

  • Part-time: Monday - Friday 9:30am - 3:30pm

  • This is a 10 month recurring role from August - May

What applying to Carnegie Mellon University usually looks like

Based on publicly available information, candidates applying through workday for Carnegie Mellon University can typically expect an online application requiring a profile, resume upload, and often supplemental questionnaires or work history forms. The process may include multiple stages such as an initial recruiter screen, one or more hiring manager or panel conversations, and possibly a skills or role-specific assessment depending on the position, ranging from technical roles like engineering to administrative or campus operations roles. Applicants can generally expect status updates through the Workday portal, and communication may come via email or phone. Response times vary and applicants should monitor their Workday account for updates. Because Workday is used broadly across large organizations, candidates should be prepared for a somewhat standardized, form-heavy application experience with occasional delays typical of high-volume applicant tracking systems.
