Job description

About Charge Robotics:

Charge Robotics is a Series A startup building robots that build solar farms.

Demand for new solar projects is booming (1 ⁄ 5 of all the solar that exists in the US was installed last year!), but today’s construction companies can’t keep up due to limited labor resources.

We thought this was insane, so we started working on robots to directly address this bottleneck and speed up the world’s transition to renewables.

Charge is a fast-moving company, which means constant opportunities for learning and growth. You’ll have a large impact on the direction of our company, and will be compensated accordingly.

We’re MIT-founded and backed by top generalist and climate tech investors, including Energy Impact Partners, Founders Fund, Lux Capital, and Y Combinator.

If you’re excited to work on interesting problems with direct climate impact, you’re going to fit right in! Read more about Charge at the links below:

About this role:

As Head of Finance, you’ll own strategic finance, FP&A, accounting, AR, AP, and the debt financing behind our fleet of robotic systems. You’ll be a hands-on member of the leadership team, reporting to the CEO, as we scale from a few deployed systems today to a Series B and a dedicated manufacturing facility in early 2027. As the owner of the Finance function, you’ll provide critical updates and reporting to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including the Board of Directors.

What you'll be working on:

  • Capital raising (equity): Together with our CEO, running our fundraises end to end, including the model, dataroom, investor pipeline, diligence, term-sheet negotiation, closing, and cap table/409A management

  • Capital raising (debt & equipment finance): Sourcing, negotiating, and managing our equipment financing facilities: both equipment lease and ABL; preparing and submitting asset schedules, tracking collateral and covenants, and making sure every lender payment lands on time

  • FP&A: Owning and iterating the financial model to accurately forecast runway, burn, headcount, per-system unit economics, and project pricing. Leveraging that forecast in board decks, investor updates, and decisions the leadership team can act on

  • Treasury & banking: Managing daily cash and short-term cash forecasting, banking relationships, and corporate card and spend programs (Ramp), including employee expense policies

  • Accounting & AP: Owning AP, approvals, and month-end close; keeping the GL in QuickBooks clean (project and COGS coding, audit-readiness); running the PO-to-payment flow with our purchasing system (supported by our external bookkeeper and internal Supply Chain team

  • Tax & compliance: Managing federal and state tax filings, R&D tax credit studies and monetization, 1099s, multi-state sales/use and gross-receipts tax posture and exemption certificates, and import/customs compliance

  • Corporate & facilities: Managing our HQ lease and key vendor and provider relationships (bookkeeping, tax, legal, insurance), including managing future expansion

  • Team: Building out an exceptional team to scale the Finance function as the company grows

You:

  • Have 8+ years in finance, including time as the senior finance lead at a venture-backed startup (Series A–C)

  • Have raised capital on both sides of the balance sheet: equity and debt, ideally including equipment lease and/or ABL facilities

  • Build and own complex, three-statement financial models that leadership and investors depend on for key analyses

  • Are comfortable owning operational areas beyond core finance (insurance, tax, payroll, procurement) and enjoy building robust process from the ground up

  • Are fluent in accounting and close (GAAP, AP, accruals, audit-readiness) and comfortable managing outsourced bookkeepers and tax advisors

  • Are genuinely hands-on: you’ll build the model, chase the invoice, and negotiate the term sheet yourself

  • Communicate clearly and directly with founders, the board, investors, lenders, and customers

  • Are based in or can relocate to the SF Bay Area, and able to work in person at our San Leandro HQ

  • Are excited to see our robots come together and get deployed onto actual solar construction sites around the world!

It'd also be nice if you:

  • Have equipment, project, or infrastructure finance experience (sale-leasebacks, asset-backed lending, CapEx-heavy businesses)

  • Have worked in hardware, robotics, manufacturing, energy, or construction

  • Have taken a company through a Series B or a first financial audit

  • Have experience on the other side of the table: deploying equity capital - or lending - to early-stage, CapEx-heavy businesses (investment banking, private equity, venture, or private credit experience)

  • Have experience with international contracts or entities

  • Have hired and managed a small Finance or Operations team
