The Opportunity
This position will provide financial support for the New York Sea Grant Program located within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, reporting to the Department Administrative Manager. Under general supervision, provide confidential program financial support to the Associate Director, Administrative Manager, and the New York Sea Grant Extension Program in the Program’s administration. Support a team of extension and administrative professionals located across the state, from Buffalo to the east end of Long Island. Accounts will be associated with a variety of sponsors at the state and federal levels.
Monitor accounts, including account distribution and verification of account expenses in coordination with the Administrator and five Administrative Assistants across the state. Communicate with New York Sea Grant Principal Investigators.

New York Sea Grant, a cooperative program of the State University of New York (SUNY) and Cornell University, is part of a national network of 34 university –based state Sea Grant programs that are administered by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Sea Grant integrates research, education, and extension to promote economic vitality and environmental sustainability to coastal residents and communities of New York.

This position is full-time (39 hours/week) and will be located in Ithaca, New York.
This is a one-year term appointment that is contingent upon available work, funding, and performance.
There is the opportunity to work remotely within New York State two days a week; an on-site presence in Ithaca is required three days a week.
Relocation Assiatnce will not be provided for this position.
High School Diploma and 2+ years relevant experience in accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to accurately apply account numbers, object codes, rules, and policies to transactions.
Must have excellent customer service skills and demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with a broad range of people.
Mindfulness, attention to detail, organizational skills, and prioritization skills are required.
Demonstrates accountability in all work responsibilities.
Possess computer software proficiency and expertise, and are proficient in the use of MS Office Suite, with a strong emphasis on Excel.
Ability to work independently while supporting the efforts of an overall team.
Ability to manage sensitive/confidential material in a professional manner.
Must be able and willing to enhance personal knowledge, skills, and abilities as needed.
Knowledge of how to balance conflicting priorities, make informed choices, and use sound judgment in completing urgent tasks.
Experience that demonstrates creativity, reasoning, and solution-finding techniques.
Ability to adhere to financial policies and procedures.
Must be able to successfully complete and maintain certification in Cornell’s Accounting Certification Program within twelve months of start date.
Must be flexible and receptive to innovative ideas and approaches.
Provide backup to other members within the team, as necessary.
Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

Associate’s degree in accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
Knowledge of federal/state regulations governing accountability and expenditures.
Financial knowledge and bookkeeping (general ledger) experience.
Familiarity with Cornell sponsored awards.
Ability to learn Cornell University's applications (Webfin2, Kuali, Research Administration Support System, Workday, and Concur).
The ability to learn Procurement and Travel and Meal business cards, e-SHOP, and I Want Doc procurement systems.
Experience working with multiple accounts from multiple sponsors.
Ability to become familiar with Cornell University fiscal policies.
