The opportunity

We’re looking for an intern on the hardware engineering team to troubleshoot field units and support testing of prototypes. You’ll be part of a small, mission-driven team working on novel hardware products. We’re growing quickly so there are ample opportunities for challenge and growth.

This internship starts in Fall 2026 and requires being on-site in our San Francisco office.

How you’ll contribute

  • Troubleshoot issues seen in the field by customers by analyzing data from units, talk to customers as needed to understand failures, and work with the engineering team to determine root causes and corrective actions.

  • Support product development teams with prototyping and testing.

  • Build software and AI tools to facilitate diagnosis of hardware failures.

What you need to succeed

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, and software systems to understand possible causes of failures.

  • Familiarity with interpreting data and sensor readings.

  • Familiarity with root cause analysis, DOE, and quality measuring techniques.

  • Pursuing or recently completed a BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.

The process may include multiple stages, such as a hiring manager conversation, technical or role-specific assessments, and panel or team interviews, depending on the position, whether engineering, operations, or design focused. Ashby-based processes commonly involve structured scorecards and standardized interview kits, which may make evaluations feel consistent across stages. Take-home exercises or practical tasks are sometimes used for technical and design roles.
