Description

Reach New Career Heights at Emory University

Emory University is a leading academic institution that promotes excellence and attracts world-class talent. Emory University School of Medicine’s Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences is committed to fostering a culture that is healthy and sustainable, and a supportive environment for our people to thrive throughout their careers. The department has a strong commitment to faculty development and academic advancement.

We welcome candidates with a variety of backgrounds and experiences who can contribute to the excellence of our community through its clinical, educational, and/or research missions.

Job Description:

The Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences is seeking a full-time Clinical CT Imaging Physicist to join its newly established Medical Physics Division. Under the direction of the Chief of Medical Physics, the division provides a collaborative framework that supports team integration, interdisciplinary partnerships, professional growth, and meaningful contributions to the advancement of medical physics within a dynamic academic health system.

The Department operates approximately 40 CT systems across Emory Healthcare and Grady Health System, including advanced technologies such as photon-counting CT. The successful candidate will support clinical CT operations while contributing to protocol optimization, radiation dose management, quality and safety, and the implementation and evaluation of emerging CT technologies.

As a School of Medicine faculty member, the successful candidate will have opportunities to lead and develop clinical CT initiatives, collaborate with radiologists and technologists on imaging optimization and innovation, contribute to education and research, mentor trainees, and engage in regional and national professional activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide clinical CT physics support for imaging sites across Emory Healthcare and Grady Health System, including technical and application support for clinical operations.
  • Collaborate with radiologists, technologists, and clinical leaders to develop, implement, standardize, and optimize CT protocols for image quality, radiation dose, clinical performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with other physicists in CT radiation dose monitoring and optimization activities, including review of dose trends, benchmarks, outliers, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support ongoing TJC, ACR, and regulatory compliance through CT physics surveys, equipment performance testing, image quality assessment, and oversight of technologist QA/QC programs.
  • Troubleshoot CT imaging artifacts and system performance issues and collaborate with clinical teams and vendors to resolve equipment and applications challenges.
  • Partner with physician, administrative, and operational leaders to develop and implement system-wide CT quality, safety, and optimization initiatives.
  • Collaborate with CT system vendors to support applications training, evaluate software and hardware upgrades, and explore opportunities for clinical innovation.
  • Advise the Department on new CT technology, equipment upgrades, system purchases, and siting, including emerging technologies such as spectral CT and photon-counting CT.
  • Support CT research protocols, clinical trials, and investigator-initiated studies requiring CT physics expertise, including protocol development, image quality assessment, dose considerations, and phantom testing.
  • Deliver CT physics education, training, and mentorship to imaging physics and medical residents, and develop educational resources and sessions for technologists and radiologists.
  • Develop and pursue collaborative research and quality improvement initiatives with radiologists, physicists, technologists, engineers, and other clinical and academic partners.
  • Participate in regional and national professional societies, scientific meetings, committees, invited presentations, educational activities, and other professional development opportunities that contribute to academic advancement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in medical physics or a related physical sciences or engineering discipline.
  • Experience and knowledge of CT physics principles, including clinical applications, radiation dose, image quality, safety, and compliance testing.
  • Experience with clinical CT technology and system operation, including protocol development and optimization.
  • Experience with CT radiation dose monitoring, analysis, and optimization.
  • Familiarity with advanced CT technologies, such as spectral CT or photon-counting CT, is desirable
  • Strong communication and time management skills; motivated, flexible, collaborative, and committed to clinical excellence.
  • Certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Radiology (ABR).
  • Faculty rank will be commensurate with experience and accomplishments.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
